At our Vermont studio, the team oversees the many facets of a dynamic studio—including research, photography, writing, commissions, and exhibitions. We work in close collaboration with our Italy studio and with our gallery partners in California, Boston, Connecticut, New York, and Austria. Every project—whether a commissioned sculpture for public placement, an artist book, or an exhibition—is guided with care and precision from inception to completion, in partnership with both public institutions and private collectors worldwide.
Carrara, Italy
Richard Erdman has traveled regularly to Carrara, Italy, for nearly four decades, working with the region’s renowned white and grey marbles—materials central to the history of Western art since Ancient Rome. By engaging directly with the same quarries that supplied Michelangelo and countless others, Erdman places his practice within a centuries-old lineage while simultaneously advancing a contemporary sculptural language. His work embodies both continuity and innovation, bridging the historical weight of tradition with the evolving possibilities of abstraction.
